Free to be, Free

The entire world seems to be going through a social crisis. It is more vital to be socially accepted today than it has ever been before.

I’m sorry, but someone has to be the voice of reason. I watch as some of our greatest leaders still fall victim to this constant need for validation. Will we ever truly wake up and experience real freedom? I’m convinced that some of the least known people in the world have already found this peace—and that’s exactly why we don’t see them.

Personally, reclaiming my freedom has been a journey of highs and lows. But in those sacred 1 to 12 hours—or even just 30 minutes a day—when I truly take back my freedom, it becomes one of the most rewarding and powerful feelings I’ve ever experienced.

We all deserve freedom—freedom to be different, to choose our own path, and to dedicate our lives to what we, as individuals, deeply believe.

It’s a continuous journey of silencing the crowd’s opinions to truly discover your own voice. One moment you feel free, and the next, something reminds you that you’re a constant work in progress.

“For where the spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.”

Freedom is a faith move. You have to believe that your freedom is directly connected to your ability to sense God and yield to Him. But if we can’t hear or sense His presence, maybe it’s because we’re too busy listening to everyone else.

God did not create people to be doormats. He gave us a mind to use and a voice to speak.

All my life I did what others wanted me to do because I believed what they thought was right. This made it so easy for people to abuse, misuse and walk all over me. As a result, I imagined God as someone who also wanted to control and take away my freedom, but “God is not like man.” He wanted me to be free.

I had to do something different, like set myself apart to spend more “alone” and personal time learning and knowing God, for myself.

When I began to take actions that were against what I was told to believe, my actions were mistaken as rebellion, when they were not. That’s because my surroundings were filled with people who were like me, afraid to be free.

The other side of freedom can be scary. Although you feel strongly about the place you’re stepping into, and you can feel God is leading you, you still feel stuck in the comforts of what everyone else expects from you. You are unaware of how you have allowed others opinion of you to take you away from freedom and your rights to decide.

Your struggle to be free can be your fight against society, culture, religion, and family traditions. It could be the reason for your anxiety. Whatever this freedom is you mustn’t allow people to stop you from pursuing it. Don’t waste another moment bound when you have every right and the tools to be free.
